I have two questions for you:
1) What's you major? (= what do you study?)
Here's a link to an example of how to answer the question:

Read about some Engineering majors:

2) What do you like about engineering?
Here's a link to ten reasons for loving engineering. You can click on each one to read more about them. Which of them do you agree with? Do you have other reasons for liking engineering?

Hi!...I'm Victoria. My major is chemical engineering. I believe that the two main reasons that made me choose becoming an engineer are:(6) make a big salary...yes, I'm a bit ambitious, I acknowledge it, and (8) travel ande see what else is out there.
ResponderBorrarHello Victoria,
ResponderBorrarThank you for starting this conversation on your various reasons for choosing your major. Yours are indeed very valid reasons for choosing a major or a career.
I look forward to your classmates' reasons!
María
My Major is the same as Vicky, Chemical Engineering. Choosing what to study was a very difficult task for me because I have many different interests, but I decided for Chemical Engeenring because it's very challenging and is a nice combination of three sciences that I like: Mathematics, physics, and chemisty
ResponderBorrarHello Ian,
BorrarThank you for sharing the reasons behind your decision to opt for your major above other interests. I can see that your decision was well-thought-out.
Besides your sound reasons, according to the University of Washington, "Chemical Engineering is one of the most challenging and rewarding careers you can choose." Check out their website:

Hello people
ResponderBorrarI'm Gabriel, the mathematician in the group. When I finished my secondary school I was very interested in two very different fields: exact sciences and music. I realised that practice for more than 4 hours per day my guitar lessons could be awfull, so I started studying physics, and later I changes to math. At that moment, I knew almost nothing about my future job, I only knew that I liked math.
I'm very happy with my choice, because the math is like huge game for me: We have a collection of rules and objects and we only have to combine them in the proper way.
Nowadays I'm very interested in applied mathematics, and for me is wonderful to find a lot of things that can be solved (o improved) using maths.
Hello Gabriel,
BorrarI can understand your love for mathematics and music. I’m sure you have read about the multiple connections between both disciplines. This is a link to a BBC radio discussion on mathematics and music.

The article includes this quote: 'Music is the pleasure the human mind experiences from counting without being aware that it is counting'. (Gottfried Leibniz, seventeenth century philosopher).
Another link to more information on the relationship between the two fields (you’ve probably read it):

Hi! Well, seems like us, Chemical Engineering students, are the most talkative people in the group. Or at least, the few commenting.
ResponderBorrarIf I had to say why I chose Chemical Engineering as my major, I'd say it was by mistake. I had a very wrong idea of what being an engineer meant... I thought it has a deeper conection with chemistry and other applied sciences in it rawest state, not so process-oriented.
I mean, I've always liked to experiment and do crazy things in order to understand my enviroment. I had my first microscopy when I was almost 9 years old, and I remember analyzing everything with it.
Now, I'm on my penultimate year of my major, and I've found out that the research field on Chemical Engineering is pretty wide, and I'm interested in specializing on Material Sciences.
Hello Santiago,
BorrarChemical Engineering students are definitely in the majority in our class. I can tell you were a bit like the boy in the cartoon I posted, weren't you? You had the knack!

Hello! My major is Civil engineering and i choose it because i´m really interested in the wonderful world of structures. I know that this career isn´t so feminine and it´s used to be related with men, but the truth is that i realised that i get very exited when i learn something about construction and enjoy a lot creating. I also love art and i spect to make use of it in my job.
ResponderBorrarHi!! I'm Niria, my major is Electronic engineering. At first I didn’t know if I preferred electronics engineering or electrical engineering and finally electronics was the best. My secondary school helped me, because I went to a technical school, and I really like what I did. And I am very happy about my choice. I don’t know if at that moment I thought about earning money or working for a big company, I only chose electronics because I like it.
